Tom,

This is going to sound preachy, I'm afraid. The Romany (otherwise known
incorrectly as Gypsies) are historically one of the most persecuted
minorities in the world, even to the present day. While it is
undoubtedly true that some street thieves in many parts of Europe are
Romany, I think that to equate them as such is an unwarranted ethnic
slur. Why not just call street thieves, street thieves?
