Well, us View Camera-holics (I'm dual-diagnosis ... Leica&Linhof) routinely 
apply this by focusing on the near object, focusing on the far object, then 
placing the lens exactly between these two points per references on the 
focusing track, then selecting the appropriate f/stop to cover it, i.e. 1/2 
in front...1/2 behind. If you are measuring CoC on the film, it's a fact.
