Thanks for mentioning Lucian Niemeyer.  On his website (www.lnsart.com) Lucian describes qualities of light, films, equipment and IMHO has very sane opinions on these matters, i.e., nature photos must be believable, which means using films with neutral color rendition; that most equipment available today can be used to produce excellent photographs 99.9% of the time; no UV filters or fill flash; and foremost, that without an understanding of light no amount of techno-wizardry or gadgets can make a good photo.

BTW he uses Leica because he wants that extra .1% in his images (and to use a UV filter would negate that small advantage designed in to his lenses).
