Subject: [Leica] Subjective Lens Tests

Another recent test:

I put my DR Summicron up against the 75mm Cosina/Voigtlander, both shot wide
open. The Summicron is in almost perfect condition, optically; the 75mm
like new. While I used to quite like the 50 -- this will not please many
people on this list -- I found that the 75mm blew it out of the water. The
bokeh is much nicer on the Voigtlander; the focus sharper; the color
rendition better. I get black and white results back tomorrow, but I can't
see this radically changing my impression of either lens, despite Leica's
vaunted performance in that regard -- bokeh is bokeh. The sharpness of the
75mm might be due to the smaller maximum aperture, but nevertheless, the
discrepancy, for me, is enough to make me decide to sell the Summicron and
rely on my Canon 50/1.4.

So... if anyone would like to buy a DR Summicron, in Ex++ condition
cosmetically, optically mint-, mechanically close to mint, I will entertain
offers. Will also trade for an original 90mm Elmarit, or towards the latest
90mm Elmarit-M. The Konica 28 M-Hexanon, mint, is also still in play. (I
sold the GA645Wi, on ebay, for just short of a thousand dollars!)

cheers,

Douglas Cooper
