Certainly, the Micro-Nikkor 55mm 1:2.8S is a very, very respectable, well-regarded lens.  Out of my collection of 4 Nikon lenses in 50/55mm range, it is by far my most favourite.  Still, the difference in the result was just so jaw-dropping.
