totally depends on the light. If you have bright light sources out of frame
that are shining directly onto the lens front element (eg sun, bright sky,
lights at night, the presence of the almighty, that kind of thing) then a
lens hood makes a big difference, especially with a wide fast lens. If not,
it doesn't.
