I posted on this subject earlier, warning against theft, but
I remembered once in my TV days that we checked a Cinema
Products Camera CP-16R  in a heavy duty case, (I think it
was an ATS or the like . . . Big blue thing with heavy duty
latches, custom built for the camera.)   I had removed the
lens from the mount, packed it in bubbles in the same case.

As we were waiting after boarding, they were loading
baggage, and I heard a loud thunk,  I remarked that it was
probably my camera.  Anyhow, when we got home, I found I was
right.

Somehow, in a fitted, bullet-proof case, the baggage
handlers managed to break the lens mount and cause an
internal injury to the camera. Fortunately, we had already
shot the job.

After that, I ALWAYS carried my camera aboard.
