I think this MIGHT be the symptom of a slow shutter...

FWIW on every M I've owned (only 4, mind, Ms 2, 3, 4-2 and 4-P) you can see
the shadow of the curtain very clearly at 1/125, about 5% of the frame, and
on at least one of them at 1/60 too. Worth checking tho.
