hear, hear.  this is one of the masterpieces of vietnam writing.  stanley
karnow's _vietnam_ is a great overall history.  and little compares to tim
o'brien's _the things they carried_ and _if i die in a combat zone_ for the
experiences of the individual soldier.  paul hendrickson's _the living and
the dead_ brilliantly shows the evil of robert mcnamara through the lives
of four people he affected. . . .
