So, unlike chrome or silver which is deposited over another metal and is subject to pitting or peeling, anodisation is very similar to selenium toning of our silver prints to increase their longevity. If it is bubbling then there is probably some impurity in the underlying metal which is oxidizing with some other element. So your suspicion that the camera has been exposed to a corrosive atmosphere or situation is probably correct.
