Subject: [Leica] Clear Plastic Tape on M6 Base
From: Tom Finnegan <TomF@piengr.com>

Mark asked:
Did I read a while back that there was a source for the clear protective
tape that comes applied to new M bodies?

Just bought a used M6 that has had the tape removed and thought I'd see if
someone has it pre-cut before I tried to fashion my own.

Thanks in advance.....

Personally, I would suggest that you buy a sheet of 1/8" UHMW Polyethylene
from an industrial supply house. I'd go for the black/carbon type since it's
static resistant and it goes better with the black chrome finish. Cut out a
piece and carefully epoxy it to your baseplate. Smooth out any rough edges
with a fine file and sandpaper.

Check out www.reliableracing.com for a full line of base prep materials
(rillers, brushes, irons, cleaners and waxes...). You'll have to experiment
a bit to find what works best for your local conditions, but the Swix Cera
FC 200 works great for me, although it is a bit pricey at $115 for 30g.

Now, not only is my baseplate well protected, but I can get amazing distance
on a wet bartop. The other Seattle area luggers are going to be in for a bit
of a surprise the next time we get together for some Leica bowling! ;-)
