Thanks, Eric. It gets curiouser and curiouser. I haven't seen the "N" before. 
Also, I should have mentioned in my first post to Dan that if the focussing 
mount is indeed the one furnished with the lens head when new, the same 
serial number the lens head bears should be printed on the black ring of the 
focussing mount that you are looking at when the lens head is removed.
