As it happens, "because they...produced good art" is superfluous.  At least
one major religion (and perhaps others too---I'm not very knowledgeable
about such stuff) teaches forgiveness.  And, beyond that, one might as well
forgive everyone for his or her every belief and action because, in fact, no
one is "responsible" for anything.  Attempting to assign blame is like a dog
chasing its tail.

Like it or not, that's simply the way it is.
