The advantage of knowing the distance is that you do not then need TTL flash
metering at all. The flash output is controlled to produce a correct
exposure for anything at that distance. A very useful feature which
eliminates having to worry about subject reflectance, film reflectance and
subject placement. It would be a stunning achievement if Leica could
incorporate an electronic sensor measuring distance from the rangefinder arm
position.
