Robert-
I read that Rodinal is well over 100 hundred years old- and was the oldest
proprietary developer still being made. Actually pre-dates the ubiquitous
D-76 by 25-30 years!!!
I also heard that the D-76 / ID-11 formula was so widely used that almost
all B&W films will get decent results with it, and is sort of a de-facto
standard developer...
Rodinal is still a good bet, though- After 35 years, I still find a place
for a bottle of it under the sink!!
