I'm certainly no expert in digital imaging but I'm familiar with the Nyquist
theorem as it relates to digital audio, specifically the need to filter out
frequencies above a certain threshold--directly related to the sampling
rate--to prevent aliasing. I imagine something similar (maybe the same
thing) is needed with the digital sampling of light.
