Yes, this is a "Canadianism" I'm afraid. Probably because the landing gear 
conversions were done in Canada.... thus making it a distinctly Canadian 
aircraft, OF COURSE :^)
Scottish in origin, I believe, but referring to the Straits of Canso 
between Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island.... who think they are a 
separate country, too.
