Subject: [Leica] Ctein and print paper resolution

Austin and others, the article in question is the March/April Photo
Techniques magazine. Basically, Ctein obtained a very high resolution bar
chart which he contact printed onto various papers. There is some
discussion of test procedures(exposure and firm contact with the paper).

He found that the single grade papers were somewhat sharper than the
multigrade and that the multigrade at grade 0 were softer than the same
multigrade paper at 5. However, even the worst case test paper Multigrade
IV RC at 80Y was resolving over 50 lp/mm. The best paper was Flexicon VC at
140 lp/mm under 200M filtration.

So, unless we are enlarging paper negatives the printing paper is not the
weak link.
