Today in the Globe and Mail there was a little tongue in cheek blurb - " 
Herman's Law":

Essentially, the order in which things are invented determines their 
lasting success. The article continues with "Suppose contact lenses had 
been invented before glasses. Then glasses come along and everybody 
says, "Hey, this is great. You can take 'em off and put 'em on whenever 
you want to, no more having to stick little pieces of plastic in you 
eye. What an improvement !"

If the M6 had been brought out after the M7. The raves would have been 
the same, except something to the tune of "At last a Leica I have 
complete exposure control with. What an improvement !" Or "...a fully 
mechanical shutter, no worrying  about battery dependence...what an 
improvement !"

This is all tongue in cheek, of course...
