Good for you. Bad for him. Silly, too, not to mention unprofessional.
At a wedding other photographer are going to use (guess what?) -- 
FLASH!   What was he thinkin?
Today's radio remotes are so good and so reliable that they're the 
only way to go. That way nobody can "steal" your flash. I've heard 
that the infared ones are good too, but I have no experience with 
them.
