The strap is for comfort and to spread the weight.  I like the thinner
straps as well, but found they would make my neck hurt during day long
hikes.  The wider strap, made of neoprene, really does a nice job of making
it comfortable for very long periods.

Is that camera strap big enough for your M6 ? ;-)  I am a big fan of the
current Leica strap.  It is small, simple and strong.
