That was my point - the preview window has to be open -

Personally - common sense dictates my actions - If I receive something from an email address i don't recognize and even if it's from the "list" but has an attachment - I delete it.

That and a good updateable Anti Virus software usually makes all the difference.

Outlook can execute scripts if the preview window is open without actually
opening the email itself.

And, since it can execute scripts embedded in html, you might unwittingly
run a script on your local computer if you either preview or read the
message...without doing anything to launch an attachment.

Both behaviors are nothing less than pure evil, in my opinion.

Search for cert advisories if you're interested in more.  Or look at
Microsoft's own security bulletins.
