Ray,

Perhaps you can have the parts re-chrome-plated,  or even silver-plated by a
local jeweler.  Also in some Gun shops they sell a chemical "blueing" for
touch ups on guns that will dye metal a dark blue-black.  You could dye them
and use a white laquer stick to make the speeds readable.  Just a thought.
And if you do any of these suggestions practice  on something first.
