Your opinion is valid; however it just depends who you want to view your pics.

In my case, lots of people who are not photographers visit my site; they have simple computers and get frustrated if
they have to scroll all over the place to see an entire image.  Many dial-up, and if an image takes too long to load,
they're off to another place.

So, I don't hold with the somewhat patrician attitude that everyone who looks at my pictures has to play by my rules.
Hence, I publish a maximum of 600 high, and usually somewhat smaller.  If it is an unusual subject that lends itself to
a pano, I will deviate from that, and let the picture go quite wide, but then I keep the height down to about 400.

Just my humble opinion.
