"Rosebud" is fully in the tradition of courtly love, where the ultimate
object of love is the rose, as in the medieval work, "The Romance of the
Rose".

Sled. Sled. Not sledge. A red wooden sled.

And, yes, in real life Rosebud was reportedly the nickname Hearst gave
Marion Davies labia. But the movie was sort-of fiction, and Wells could
hardly have gotten away with coming any closer than a sled to placing
the
name on the right object.

On the other hand, there was undoubtedly an interesting connection
between
the sled which symbolized Kane's loss of his mother, and.....

Hey, it was a movie. A brilliant movie, but a movie none the less.

Well I do seem to remember that 'rosebud' had more to do with Randolph
Hearst's mistress (or more to the point a certain part of her) than it
had to do with a sledge (yes it was the name of the sledge as well) - I
could be wrong of course - not for the first or last time of course!
