I carry my Gitzo monopod, using it as a cane.  By the end of the trip, I am 
genuinely limping and leaning on the monopod as I drag all of my equipment 
through the airports.  Security has never even asked about it.  It's a 
sturdy monopod with a Gitzo ballhead mount on top.
