i too was ripped off on ebay (remember the kazakhstan incident?) and am
cautious, perhaps overly so. in my observation of life, COD is now
extremely rare, and most sellers expect payment before shipment. the
agreement i suggested to darrell jenkins, which he readily accepted, was
a way to hasten getting the lens to him, which i could tell was
something he really wanted, yet maintain a *structure* of security that
would be mutually beneficial. i would have been extremely surprised if
darrell had ripped me off, and i feel he'd feel the same way if i'd
ripped him off. this way, the transaction is conducted in the open, so
there's no he said/she said if there's a dispute. i didn't intend it a
new LUG procedure for transactions. i simply thought of it to faciliate
things between darrell and me, as we generally don't "know" each other
all that well on the LUG. i generally would trust any LUGGER in a blind
transaction, but i also wouldn't be offended if, as frank has mentioned,
he insisted on full payment up front.
