Yes, it is a matter of personal taste, frequently mitigated by how
uncomfortable you are in close proximity to your fellow man.  35MM is the
primary focal length for street work.  As you get more comfortable in
contact distance you will find yourself going wider and wider.

The previous advice about a second body with a 50 for detail or "telephoto"
work is good advice.  I haven't tried it but someone on the list must have
tried the Tri-Elmar with a higher speed film.  Having a 28-35-50 with the
turn of a wrist is an appealing thought.
