Maybe I am mean, but why should I train somebody to take the bread from my mouth. My assistant is a girl who can handle dresses, hair, bra straps etc. It makes sense to me! If you want to get wedding photography experience, why not offer to assist the main photographer? He/she will probably appreciate it, you can probably still take as many of your own shots as you like and you stand to learn a few useful things in the process.
