Consider the example of Janacek, who's unique voice didn't develop until he 
was in his fifties. Had he given himself up as hopelessly derivative, he'd 
have never had his breakthrough.

"Do it anyway."

There's a good policy for dealing with mid-life crisis. Better than a red 
sports car.
