Filter? FILTER? Don't tell me you used a UV filter with a zoom lens?!?
This is a good formula for flare creation. The zoom has lots of reflective
surfaces, and a filter adds 2 more.

I'd like to use this as justification for switching to an R8 or R9 system but
first try duplicating the flare with the (unmentionable) non-Leica camera,
complete with filter, then take th filter off and see if the results are
different. Then try the same thing with a prime (non-zoom) lens and see if
you see a difference.

Typically Leica zooms are more flare-resistant than N or C zooms but before
you drop a big wad of cash on a system swap, see if you can improve the
results to an acceptable (to you) level by removing the UV filter.
