Richard,

In my opinion, if you are interest in using old Nikon and Canon lenses,
why not buy a Nikon or Canon body to put them on? I am sure that those
lenses were excellent in their day, but I am equally sure that they are
inferior to the modern Cosina/Voigtlander or Leica lenses. If you are on
a budget, then save on the body and get something like the Bessa R2 (1/4
of the price of an M6) and put the savings into good, modern glass. Many
Leica lenses can be had at reasonable prices on the second-hand market,
especially those like the 28mm or 90mm Elmarits which have recently been
superceded by excellent Summicrons--the result is that people who are
upgrading are putting their Elmarits on the market.

Fundamentally, I just fail to see the point of spending $1600 on an M6
or $2200 on an M7 (or whatever the price is these days) and then putting
some ancient non-Leica lenses on them to save money.
