Bill--

Even though you mentioned you aren't planning to use slide film, just to
treat yourself, pick up a roll of Ektachrome VS and drop it into the R9 with
that lens. Eye-candy. ;-)

Nathan,
Yes, it is the new APO Macro.
Guess I'll meander to Jim's favorite camera shop on Saturday and see if
they have the new saturated film. Sunday there is a Harley Davidson show at
the new Porsche/Audi/VW dealer, they are across the street from each other
and both are sparkling new buildings so they are trying a cross promotion,
it's by Reading if you are interested Jim. Should be something of interest
to take there - course the mercury vapor lights will be a treat. And, no I
won't be riding my bike.

Bill,

If the lens you refer to is the 100mm Apo Macro Elmarit, then yes, it is
one of the "magic" Leica lenses, in my opinion the finest lens I own, M
or R (and I have a total of 8). I tend to use it with the slowest,
finest-grained slide film that I can get my hands on, Kodachrome 25
(sadly discontinued, but I have a generous stash in the freezer). But if
you want to see if it is worth for you to get into the R system, you
should follow Don's advice and shoot the kind of pictures you usually
shoot and then see if you can identify an improvement over your Nikon glass.
