good luck with the 400/5.6/Televit try out. As I have mentioned, I have
the 560/6.8 Telyt and after about 1 hour I was focusing the trombone
mechanism like it was natural. I actually prefer it over the regular focus
as it is much faster. I just wish the lens had a larger aperture. I shoot
almost 90% with it wide open and 200 ASA or faster film and the lens favors
the shoulder stock holding method as the tripod mount is too close to the
camera end to balance well on the tripod, but is can be done. It handles
very nicely with the shoulder stock and shutter release cable. I use it
with a R4SP with winder, or a Leicaflex SL. I would recommend getting the
plain focusing screen as it will be better for focusing than the split
prism screen.

Yes, but as one that does not yet have the lens, I am trying to make the
buy
decision.... and it is not easy with a lens this unique in its focusing
technique..... I have no question about the quality of the glass, but if
you can't focus it correctly, you might as well use a coke bottle bottom as
one of the elements!

You would think that after 40 years of taking pictures, this kind of
question would not have to be asked...... but I really am having trouble
figuring this 400/560 thing out...... I think I will go borrow one from my
buddy and try it out.... the 400/5.6 / Televit on a tripod, if I understand
all the inputs correctly.... is the best configuration for this lens.

Thanks all, and especially Doug for being so patient......and thoughtful in
your responses.....

It takes a bit of practice, but once you get used to it it is very easy.
