Mine rotates freely, with what you might call "friction detents" to keep it
from moving.  I saw it as an obvious design flaw and could never understand
why Leica designed it that way.  It seemed much too easy to move the ASA
setting by accident.  In practice, mine has never moved unintentionally, but
it's good to know Leica has fixed the flaw.

I wonder if Leica USA will retrofit the fix into older M7s still under
warranty.
