I disagree. All you are doing is matching the sensor plane with the film plane. If you can make a sensor that fits within the bounds of the film gate, and that allows the sensing elements to be coplanar with the plane of focus, without interfering with the shutter, whether it's a 1.3x sensor or as large as can be placed, should not make a difference.
