That does indeed help, as experience in the field is always better than
hurried reviews in magazines etc.  One final question if I may.

I have heard that there is a lot of noise in images taken above ISO100,
particularly at ISO400.  Have you found this, and would you say that is is
any more intrusive than that from using an ISO400 colour film and scanning
it?

Thanks again for your comments.  The Digilux does indeed seem a good route
into digital at a cost that can easily be recouped.  The ability to pay for
itself means that another investment in a year when technology had advanced
even further would seem less like money being wasted, and the learning curve
would be accomplished.
