A dealer gave me a very good explanation.  There hasn't been a new lens of
this type for a long time and it's the only lens of its focal length for M
cameras so there is nothing for owners to upgrade to.  Almost all the used
stuff he gets is in part exchange for new versions or faster lenses, 35mm
Summicron to 35mm Summicron ASPH or 50 mm Summicron to Noctilux etc..

It's one of the lenses with a funny focal length with terrific bokeh, heavy
neck-aching glass. One might even develop a love-hate relationship with it
but are usually unwilling to part with.
Hence its rarity.
