An AF Camera body made in the end of the last millennium. A dozen years ago. These lenses are 38 years old. Some are from the late 70's and 80's. Nikon is still making non AF lenses. Sixteen of them! Now an EOS guy is not going to cram an F1 Canon lens on his camera. Might upset the laser beams and fry his cornea off. Might improve his vision. Except for those night streaks. For years Nikons big selling point has been the durability of its lens mount. But Canon has a bigger lens mount. And the company is much more than ten times the size of Nikon. Part of its coming out with the full chip camera was because it knew Nikon could not. At least of a year or two. It's P.R.oflex. Considering the odds are stacked way against it is not Canon who comes out with all the innovations first. Nikon has a full share of these. I doubt Nikon needs to open up its mount and work around it. I will work around the inside of it.
