Jerry has acknowledged off list that the M3 _does_ superimpose the 90mm and
135mm frame lines on top of the 50mm one.

Thank you for taking the time to key that courteous reply. What I was
referring to is the fact that when you put a 90mm or a 135mm lens on an M3
the 50mm frame lines do not disappear, hence there are two frame lines in
the viewfinder (50mm + 90mm or 50mm and 135mm), hence the ambiguity.

WTF are you talking about?  There are 3 separate and distinct frame lines;
50, 90, and 135mm.
