Back in the '70's I used FG-7 1:15 one shot with Sulfite regularly.  
Today, instead of sulfite I would use a teaspoon of Sodium Ascorbate 
per liter of working strength developer.  Ascorbate will give fine 
grain and not make it into mush like sulfite will.
