a very large proportion of the "classic" street work is shot with 28mm (eg
Winogrand, Klein) through 35mm to 50mm (eg HCB). That genre doesn't ever
seem to go beyond say 90mm lenses at the very most - and you would have to
say 50mm really.

There are some people who have done certain types of street work with longer
lenses. But generally not what you would call the "classic" or "traditional"
street photography of Winogrand, Klein, Koudelka, Friedlander, Meyerowitz,
Ray-Jones, Frank, Gene Richards, Alex Webb etc.
