Karen,
You are correct that it is motion blur.  Other frames at 1.4 are sharp
especially in the center of the frame.

Great photo! A nice journalistic touch. I'm wondering though why your 
lens is so soft. My lens doesn't experience any of that softness. 
Part of it could be motion blur, though, I guess.
