Daniel,
You seem to have all the ingredients with the exception of garlic which
may or may not be to your taste.  The trick is to cook the peas long
enough that they are soft but not so long that they are mush.

black-eyed peas, a slab of salted pork and I need a recipe for something
to live on the rest of the week. Bay-leaves, I have, onion, ...

My grandmother could make a delicious dish out of the above. Do I need
anything else?
