WHEN will the American people wake up that almost 500 people have been killed (on the American coalition side)? Yet you were easily able to find the figures. The military has a daily news conference and my local paper puts virtually every casualty on the front page. At this point in the debate, most Americans know approximately how many people have died. The problem is that at this point, the numbers have not changed people's opinion. What many want to do is shock people with images of coffins which has nothing to do with news gathering or reporting and everything to do with political statement. My suggestion would be to line up 500 coffins in Grand Central Station instead of harassing the bodies of the dead and their families. Just by listening to a daily litany from Central Command of "two more US soldiers were killed north of Baghdad" etc, do the American people get an honest sense of these numbers? These young men and women have died and been wounded on behalf of those who sent them there. Surely the American (and British) people should both honour them and be fully aware of the cost being paid. Currently, it is in effect, being hidden. tim a - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
