I suspect Daniel is translating from Swedish in his head. In Danish, and I am
sure in Swedish and Norwegian as well, the "red thread" ("den røde tråd" in
Danish) simply refers to a common theme in a body of work. The expression has no
political connotations, although I guess it could be interpreted as such in this
case.
