Anyone >else remember "double-clutch" from the olden days? >Don Williams >La Jolla, CA I remember it well; that's how I learned to drive almost 60 years ago. Down-shifting, the required (in the driving test) means for slowing the vehicle, obviously required double-clutching. Failure to synchronize the gears in this manner produced loud, unpleasant and expensive-sounding noises, marking the driver as a rank novice. Heel-and-toe was the approved way to down-shift sporting automobiles, and the resulting backfiring was much appreciated by the aficionados who could classify automobiles by those sounds. At least that's how I remember it. Oliver Bryk - -- To unsubscribe, see http://mejac.palo-alto.ca.us/leica-users/unsub.html
