I often find myself conducting research projects after dinner, before bed, trying to get to the bottom of things. When an item is denied mass consumption, it means something, something important. The items that are offered for mass consumption and the items are denied mass consumption never are arbitrary and/or capricious. So what does that imply? It implies that we are fed a steady diet of acceptable content which promotes acceptable views of reality. We can categorize media content, and often do, in terms of American and anti-American. How insane is that? Please post some photographs depicting anti-Swedish behavior, or pro Swedish behavior. Why should bodies burned, mass graves dug, children killed, by us not be fodder for mass consumption, but Bush offering a Turkey to the troops, be endlessly printed and commented about? The depth of our manipulation by images and how as a result we will passively give the nod to mass murder and destruction is vastly underrated in this country. That's real. Individual editors may not use photos they have a problem with, but one would hardly blame the government for that. I'm not even sure it serves a serious purpose to frequently print such photos. I saw the picture in question and it in no way made me "understand" the consequences of war better than had I not seen it. I know that people die in war, that they get burned and blown-up. It might even be a flaw with some photojournalist to think that such photos have intrinsically more merit than photos of more mundane matter.
