To Ted & Seth,
    The filter built into the optical design question is for the second
version of the 280mm f/2.8 which had a filter slot.
    The original version uses a 122mm screw in filter on the  front.
    As to the 400 & 560 Telyts either the f/5.6 or the f/6.8 version, it
doesn't matter  if you use a filter or not.
    Lastly, Ted, the f/2.8 280mm APO Telyt-R was designed in 82/83 and the
first prototypes were release for guys like us to play with in early  84.
Not as you  said 64.
