The vast majority of such cases were observant Jews who wanted to preserve the boy's foreskin for the rabbi. Since I consider circumcision an utterly useless form of mutilation and cannot imagine that God would really care whether a boy/man has his foreskin or not, I requested that they leave my son intact. Since by then I had also informed them that his name would be Moses, they of course assumed that a rabbi would do the job 8 days later and accepted my request without further ado. Little did they know that the original Moses Wajsman, after whom my son is named, was my paternal grandfather who never set foot in the synagogue and was a member of the city council of Lublin before the war, representing Bund, the Jewish Socialist party...
